Abstract:   (1251 Views)
Introduction: home caregivers of the older adults have psychological problems that require interventions to solve these problems. The purpose of this research was to determine the effect of cognitive therapy based on mindfulness on resilience and suicidal thoughts of older adult’s home caregivers.
Methods: The research method was semi-experimental and pre-test, post-test with a control group. The statistical population of this research included all the family caregivers of the older adults who referred to the welfare organization of Babol city in the second half of 1400, and 30 people (15 people in the experimental group and 15 people in the control group) were selected by convenience sampling. Data collection tools were Connor and Davidson's resilience questionnaires (2003) and Beck's (1987) suicidal ideation questionnaire. Cognitive therapy intervention based on mindfulness was performed on the experimental group and the control group did not receive any intervention. Data analysis was done with descriptive tests (mean and standard deviation) and covariance analysis using SPSS version 24 software. P value less than 0.05 was considered significant.
Results: In the resilience variable, the mean and standard deviation of the experimental group in the pre-test was 27.02±4.42 and in the post-test 39.67±5.51 and in the variable of suicidal thoughts, the mean and standard deviation of the experimental group in the pre-test 18.27±2.74 in the test and 10.93±1.83 in the post-test. The results of covariance analysis also showed that mindfulness had an effect on resilience and suicidal thoughts of older adults home caregivers (P<0.01).
Conclusion: Based on the findings of the research, cognitive therapy based on mindfulness can be used to increase resilience and reduce suicidal thoughts in home caregivers of the older adults.
