Objective: With the increase in the elderly population and the expansion of the retired population, attention to psychological and social factors affecting their quality of life and satisfaction with their lives has become increasingly important. An individual's understanding of the aging process, as one of the important psychosocial factors, can be related to how the elderly adapt to the changes of old age and retirement. Therefore, the present study was conducted with the aim of determining the relationship between the understanding of aging and satisfaction with life with the quality of life in retired elderly people covered by social security in Qazvin in 2026. Methods: This cross-sectional analytical study was conducted on 251 retired elderly people covered by social security in Qazvin in 2025. The samples entered the study after meeting the inclusion criteria and obtaining informed consent, and their cognitive status was assessed using a short mental status assessment test. Then, demographic information, understanding of aging, satisfaction with life, and quality of life questionnaires were completed. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, and linear regression models at a significance level of 0.05. All statistical analyses were performed using SPSS version 27 software and at a significance level of 5%. Findings: In this study, 251 retired elderly people covered by the Social Security Organization of Qazvin were studied, whose average age was 73.91 ± 6.85 years and 56.2% of them were men. In multiple linear regression analysis, both life satisfaction and perception of aging had a positive and significant relationship with quality of life; so that for each unit increase in the life satisfaction score and perception of aging, the quality of life score increased by 0.91 and 0.73 units, respectively (p<0.001). In examining factors related to the perception of aging, primary education compared to university education (β=-6.24, p=0.044), insufficient financial sufficiency (β=-4.82, p=0.002), and low financial sufficiency (β=-5.06, p=0.002) were associated with a lower perception of aging. Also, being male (β=-5.09, p=0.029), secondary education (β=-7.32, p=0.025), lack of financial sufficiency (β=-8.76, p<0.001), and low financial sufficiency (β=-5.71, p=0.004) were associated with a significant decrease in quality of life. In the regression model related to life satisfaction, only marital status had a significant relationship; Married elderly people had an average of 4.45 points higher life satisfaction score than divorced elderly people (p=0.001). Other demographic variables did not show a significant relationship with life satisfaction. Conclusion: The findings of this study showed that among retired elderly people covered by the Social Security Organization, life satisfaction and perception of aging had a positive and significant relationship with quality of life. Also, social, economic and demographic factors, especially financial status, gender and marital status, were related to some of the dimensions studied. Accordingly, simultaneous attention to the economic and social conditions of the elderly and strengthening factors related to quality of life can be considered in planning to improve the welfare and well-being of retired elderly people.
