Introduction: Aging has always been accompanied by many problems and many solutions have been studied to treat it, and there has been little research on group schema therapy in the elderly that tries to restore values in the elderly. The present study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of group schema therapy on the communication skills of elderly people living in a nursing home in Tehran province.
Methodology: The experimental research method was conducted with a pretest-posttest design with a control group. The statistical population included the elderly residing in a nursing home in Tehran province. The statistical sample included 30 people who were selected conveniently from among the elderly residing in a nursing home in Tehran province and were randomly placed in two groups of 15 people (experimental and control groups), and 10 sessions of group schema therapy were conducted on the experimental group. The data collection tool was the 34-question Queendom Communication Skills Questionnaire and the 16-question King and Ammons Emotional Expressiveness Questionnaire. results: The results of the study showed that there was a statistically significant difference in the post-test mean of the two groups in terms of communication skills and emotional expression; meaning that the effectiveness of schema therapy training on communication skills and emotional expression of the elderly was statistically significant (p<0.01).
Conclusion: It can be concluded that group schema therapy is an effective intervention program that can improve communication skills and emotional expression in the elderly.
