Introduction: Loneliness and death anxiety are one of the major concerns in old age and can negatively affect qualityof life and mental health. Therefore, the use of psychotherapy interventions based oncompassion and meaning can play an important role in promoting the mental health of older adults. Methods:The present study was conducted using a quasi-experimental pretest–posttest design witha two-month follow-up.The statistical population consisted of all olderwomen (with an age range of 60 to up years) residing innursing homes in Dezful, Iran in 2025. A total of 45 volunteers were randomly assigned to three groups: logotherapy, narrative therapy, and control. The interventions included eight weekly sessions lasing90 minutes each.Data collection instruments included the Loneliness Scale Version 3 and Death Anxiety Questionnaire.Data were analyzed using repeated measuresanalysis of variance in SPSS version 26. Results: Theresults indicated that logotherapy and narrative therapy had a statisticallysignificant effect on reducing loneliness and death anxiety inolder women. Furthermore, the positive effects of theintervention were maintained during the two-monthfollow-up phase. Also, in the two experimental groups, a significant difference was observed between the pre-test and post-test, as well as between the pre-test and the follow-up period (p<0.01); but no significant difference was observed between the type of logotherapy intervention and narrative therapy (p<0.05). Conclusion: Both logotherapy and narrative therapy can reduce loneliness and death anxiety in the elderly. The use of these approaches in elderly care centers is suggested as effective psychological interventions to improve the mental health of elderly.
