Abstract:   (30 Views)
Introduction: Loneliness and death anxiety are one of the major concerns in old age and can negatively affect quality of life and mental health. Therefore, the use of psychotherapy interventions based on compassion and meaning can play an important role in promoting the mental health of older adults.
Methods: The present study was conducted using a quasi-experimental pretest–posttest design with a two-month follow-up. The statistical population consisted of all older women (with an age range of 60 to up years) residing in nursing homes in Dezful, Iran in 2025. A total of 45 volunteers were randomly assigned to three groups: logo therapy, narrative therapy, and control. The interventions included eight weekly sessions lasing 90 minutes each. Data collection instruments included the Loneliness Scale Version 3 and Death Anxiety Questionnaire. Data were analyzed using repeated measures analysis of variance in SPSS version 26.
Results: The results indicated that logo therapy and narrative therapy had a statistically significant effect on reducing loneliness and death anxiety in older women. Furthermore, the positive effects of the intervention were maintained during the two-month follow-up phase. Also, in the two experimental groups, a significant difference was observed between the pre-test and post-test, as well as between the pre-test and the follow-up period (p<0.01); but no significant difference was observed between the type of logo therapy intervention and narrative therapy (p<0.05).
Conclusion: Both logo therapy and narrative therapy can reduce loneliness and death anxiety in the elderly. The use of these approaches in elderly care centers is suggested as effective psychological interventions to improve the mental health of elderly.
